As for Austin Culver CPA LLC's business practice, as an accounting firm we do have to collect personal identifiable information (PII) for legitimate business use. For example, in the preparation of an individual tax return we have to collect information like names, addresses, social security numbers, bank account numbers, employer information, etc. We only request personal information through our secure portal, where you are able to upload documents safely and securely. Similarly, we upload documents with sensitive information (like a finished tax return) through our secure portal. We will only request information that, in our professional judgement, is necessary for legitimate business purposes, for example, a social security number on an individual tax return. Austin Culver CPA LLC will never voluntarily disclose any data collected through our business practice except for legitimate business use, unless legally required to do so.
Additional Information
We take measures to protect client data including the use of our secure portal for document delivery, access controls (strong passwords and multi-factor authentication), virtual private networks (VPNs), the implementation of a Written Information Security Plan (WISP), etc. We have a retention policy of 7 years, meaning we retain a copy of client data (tax returns, tax workpapers, etc.) for 7 years, after which such data is deleted.
